I was introduced to design, home renovations and the building process by my mom Nancy and my dad Ben. Each had different talents and skills that together created the most wonderful spaces and rooms to grow up in. Nancy had a flare for decorating combining antiques with traditional bought pieces curating custom designs that today we have many names for including; modern farmhouse, eclectic, and vintage chic. Nancy antiqued furniture with paints and stains (which we now call chalk painting), incorporated objects and decor pieces in creative ways, found treasures at flee markets and on the street and used her self taught skills with fabrics to create fabulous designs!
Nancy and Ben Gibson were not only my parents but my amazing mentors. Together they built two homes, one on Grosse Ile, MI and one in Palm City, FL finishing out many construction projects to save money with their sweat equity. Ben designed and implemented the plans and along with Nancy's creative vision they brought those plans and ideas to life. Two of their 5 homes were on home tours for their fresh and forward thinking and use of textures, colors, mixing of styles, and Ben's custom carpentry including a design and sewing center built-in for Nancy.
As a young girl I saw how my parents could take a space and with a modest budget turn that into a room as beautiful as a magazine picture. I spent many hours learning from my mom helping her paint, wallpaper, source decor, and watched her reimagine cast off furniture pieces, fabricate home decor, and over time continue to update our homes with fresh ideas. She truly was a HGTV talent before it was ever available.
